Bexhill Observer (20/03/09): Men's Artistic Set Work South East Qualifier

Three boys from the 1066 Gymnastics Academy travelled to Crawley to perform their grades routines last weekend.

Competing at club level three, ten-year-old Kasbian Rogers faced some tough competition but performed well on most pieces, including floor and vault to finish with a score of 47.350, good enough for seventh place.

Callan Hall contested club level two and, aside from a few small errors, enjoyed a smooth competition experience, recording the highest vault score at his level (9.400) to boot. Callan's score after all seven routines was 56.550 which meant he tied for fifth position, earning him a place on the Club Level Two South East team. He will represent the region at the national finals in Newcastle during May.

Samuel Clarke competed at the same level as Callan and, with a best score of 9.050 on vault, ended with 56.300 - just a quarter of a mark behind his club-mate.

Coach Matthew Hart said "Considering we've been six months without a gym of our own, I'm extremely pleased with their performances. At one stage we were unsure whether would be ready for the qualifiers. To perform that strongly and earn a place at the national finals was great."

The boys will enjoy a two week break from training as the final work is completed on their brand new facility in Bexhill which will boast state-of-the-art equipment. The club also welcomes new coaches who are looking forward to offering classes to hundreds of local children and young people. Details of available classes can be found at www.1066gym.co.uk.
