Bexhill Observer (13/11/09): Wealth Of Medals For 1066 Tumblers

Twenty six gymnasts from the 1066 Gymnastics Academy travelled to Crawley recently for the 2009 South East Tumbling Championships. The group of youngsters aged between 8 and 15 years old included a mix of first time and seasoned competitors.

At the Regional A level Abbie Curd and Leah Falla competed well. Club-mates Summer Jennings and Imogen Mitchell performed strongly enough to earn gold medals in their age groups.

Representing the club at the Regional B level were Lauren Jeanes, James Molnar and Dylan Evans who enjoyed their first taste of competitive gymnastics. Kai Mills, Harry Markfort and Bethany Todd earned bronze medals in their age groups while Benjamin Hilmer-Ewel scored silver and Kyle Wilson, Liam McKean and Nicholas Krystahl finished in gold medal positions.

The Regional C level saw Holly Chapman and Rebecca Cameron take to the tumble track and walk away with gold and silver medals respectively. Samantha Prince not only earned first place in her age group but also the highest score of all the Regional C competitors. She was presented with the Regional C level trophy.

Kasbian Rogers and Matthew Collins competed at the National 1 level. Kasbian finished with a gold medal while Matthew took a silver medal home from his first competition after a two year break from competing. Jake Townsend and Samuel Hammond represented the 1066 boys at the National 2 level. Jake brought home a gold medal and Samuel took silver from his first time representing the club. Gemma Morgan, Charlotte Whittaker and Danielle Sands also performed very strongly at this level. In a large age group Charlotte and Danielle did extremely well to finish second and first respectively. Jake and Danielle managed to tie for the highest total score across all age groups at the National 2 level. They proudly earned a second glass trophy for the club.

Jack Cooper took on the National 3 level tumbles. He beat some strong competition to finish first and with a gold medal.

Lucy Burton completed the 1066 effort with a strong performance at the Elite 1 level. After three successful tumbles Lucy was rewarded with second place and a silver medal.
