Bexhill Observer (18/09/09): Young Sam Looks The Part
Sam Clarke was the envy of his training buddies when a new leotard catalogue arrived featuring him alongside the country's top gymnasts.
Nine-year-old Sam travelled to an open call photo shoot in Crawley at the start of the year for Milano - the country's leading manufacturer of gymnastics training gear. He was thrilled to hear a few weeks later that he had finished in second place in their national modelling contest for boys.
Sam attended the company's annual catalogue photo shoot in Manchester where he met Charlie Burrows and Mike Barnes - two of the country's top tumblers. He was presented with a silver medal and £75 worth of Milano vouchers which he spent on one of the leotards he modelled.
Sam, who trains at the 1066 Gymnastics Academy in Bexhill five days a week, is gearing up for appearances at both the Sussex and British Championships next month.
The Academy is holding a mock competition on Saturday September 26 from 10:00am to give gymnasts the chance to practise their performances under competition conditions.
Club manager Matthew Hart said: "We try to mimic an actual competition a couple of weeks before a major event as it helps the gymnasts relax on the day when it counts. An audience always helps because it gives the extra edge of adrenaline and nerves that they will experience on the day. It would be a great opportunity to come and see some competitive level gymnastics."
