Bexhill Observer (03/07/09): Club Backs Talented Jazmin
Jazmin Clark represented the 1066 Gymnastics Academy on the womens artistic competition scene for the very first time on Sunday. Jazmin competed in the Pegasus Open at the Maidstone Leisure Centre against gymnasts from across the region and further afield.
She enjoyed a smooth competition and finished in ninth place overall with a score of 45.783. Coaches Kelly Smith and Jodie Saxby were very pleased with Jazmin's performance. "All we hoped for was a clean event for her," said Smith. "She had just that and a good finishing position. Now we have something to build upon."
Jazmin was supported by 25 club members including fellow gymnasts, siblings, parents, coaches and club founder Matthew Hart. Hart said "Jazmin was an absolute pleasure to watch and there was a great buzz in the audience with so many of us there to cheer her on. She had a great debut and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable day."
Jazmin, who has just celebrated her ninth birthday, now returns to her Bexhill-based gymnastics club where preparations are being made to welcome British gymnastics star Beth Tweddle.
"We are about to celebrate our official opening," said Hart. "Now we're all settled in we want to have a celebratory moment that we'll remember forever. Our squad gymnasts are busy preparing display items for their family members and Beth. They're all terribly excited to be welcoming a top international gymnast into their training home."
Tweddle represented Great Britian at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and 2008 Games in Beijing. Crowned World Bars Champion in 2006 and the current European Champion on Bars and Floor, she is looking forward to competing at this year's World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the London O2 Arena in October.
Tweddle will be opening the 1066 Gymnastics Academy on Saturday 11 July. Tickets and more information are available at the club's reception. Contact office@1066gym.co.uk or call 213779.
