Club celebrates third anniversary

Gymnasts and coaches from 1066 Gymnastics celebrated the club's third anniversary at the recent Sussex Gymnastics Championships. The multi-discipline event took place in Crawley and allowed the club to put forward entrants into several different gymnastics events.

Kicking off the weekend was the Team Gym event in which the club entered its two national teams. The 1066 Terrors scored 10.700 on floor, 12.540 on tumble and 11.050 on trampette for a total of 34.290 and a set of gold medals in the national primary men's category. The 1066 Tornados received 12.200 on floor, 14.840 on tumble and 11.700 on Trampette. They ended their event with a total of 38.740 and gold in the national mixed junior's category. This ever marked the final appearance by both teams as the club now reshuffles its Team Gym sector ready for new teams to emerge in the New Year.

In the Tumbling event Joshua Boreham took gold with 67.550 after producing three strong tumbles at the national 3 level. Club mate Jake Townsend earned 71.650 and gold at the elite 1 level.

Samuel Clarke and Callan Hall contested the under 12 group in the Men's Artistic competition. Both enjoyed a very smooth run of routines which ended their season on a high. Hall ranked second on rings and parallel finished and third on vault. He finished with 62.800 and fourth place while Clarke improved on a tired performance at British Championships a few weeks earlier, placing second on vault and high bar and third on pommel horse. He took the silver medal with 64.300.

In the Women's Artistic event Amie Anderson and Honor Homewood appeared at level 5. Anderson's best apparatus where she placed third with 43.950. She finished in fourth place with a total of 45.350. Homewood enjoyed third place on beam with 11.500 and took a total of 43.950.

In the women's floor and vault event Samantha Prince emerged in second place in the highly contended bronze level group for girls aged 10-11 years after collecting 16.250 marks. Her training buddy Leah Falla joined her in this group and competed well to score 15.750. Summer Jennings took the gold medal in the bronze level group for girls aged 12-14 with 16.850. Bethany Todd shared the same category and earned herself 16.100. Kiarna Ling appeared in the gold group for girls aged 15 and over. She took the gold medal with 16.850 and was presented with the veterans award.

Joshua Boreham enjoyed further success in his men's floor and vault category by earning 16.900. He was also presented with a trophy for earning the highest scoring men's floor exercise.

Head coach Matthew Hart commented; "We always enjoy returning to these championships as each year marks another year of growth for us as a club. This year we had new gymnasts and new coaches on the arena floor and the atmosphere was fantastic. It's always a pleasure to celebrate the club's anniversary with a series of strong performances."
